Week of June 29"The Believing Centurion, A Gentile Whose Faith Jesus Commended"

Picture a light left on in a window — and somebody far off in the dark deciding to walk toward it. That's the shape of this whole week.

This week's Sunday school lesson is "The Believing Centurion, A Gentile Whose Faith Jesus Commended." A Roman officer — an outsider, a soldier of the occupying army — left Jesus amazed: "I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel." In about five minutes, this explainer walks all seven of the week's daily readings and shows how each one traces God's light reaching past every border to the outsider, building straight to that centurion taking a seat at God's table.

This week's daily readings: 📖 Monday, June 29 — Isaiah 49:1-6 — A Light to the Nations 📖 Tuesday, June 30 — Psalm 72:1-13 — May All Nations Serve the Lord 📖 Wednesday, July 1 — Ephesians 2:1-10 — God Makes Us Alive through Christ 📖 Thursday, July 2 — Ephesians 2:11-22 — Strangers Brought Near through Christ 📖 Friday, July 3 — Isaiah 60:1-8 — Arise, Shine; Your Light Has Come 📖 Saturday, July 4 — Isaiah 60:9-14 — The Coastlands Await God's Light 📖 Sunday, July 5 — Matthew 8:5-13 — A Banquet Spread for All

The good news running under all of it: you don't get a seat at God's table by being worthy — you get it the way the centurion did, by coming with empty hands and trusting Jesus at his word. The outsider sat down with the patriarchs. So can you.
